When we were young, we scribbled on a piece of paper and discovered that we could create "genuine reality" and "fictional reality". Today, displayed all around us in the gallery are the results of this creative urge. Over one hundred artists participate in Bruria Hassner's painting workshops which are held in Givatayim. The "newcomers" have been coming for several years and many of the more experienced ones for almost twenty. Some come once a week, others twice or even three times a week traveling from all corners of the country. With a stimulating mix of ages and professions, the uniting factor is the artists' perseverance and commitment to their painting and to the learning process. Bruria Hassner is a well established artist. She is also a dedicated and gifted teacher. Her unique workshops encourage artistic creativity, risk taking and inspiration. With her support there is mutual encouragement and support between the participants that leads to artistic dialogue and growth. This enriching process evolves during the actual work in progress as each artist observes the others' creative journey, giving and receiving constructive criticism from the group. Bruria. Hassner encourages each person to develop a "handwriting" of his/her own . This is an individual style or direction that develops over the years as a result of her teaching methods, guidance, stimulation and exposure to many different techniques. It is this variety and individuality of personal artistic expression that Bruria strives to develop and to maintain. Some of the paintings on display are figurative. Some are abstract, concealing and revealing their subject matter. Some are conceptual and then there are those that try to study the art work itself (ars - poetic). There are restrained and minimalist paintings and there are intense and expressive works that allow us to give free rein to our imagination. In some of these paintings we can "see" the dialogue the artists have with some of the major abstract American artists such as Rauschenberg, Basquiat, Larry Rivers and others as well as with European artists such as Howard Hodgkin, Karel Appel, Louise Borgeouis et alia. Many of the participants in this exhibition are artists who have their paintings displayed in exhibitions in Israel as well as abroad. This year's exhibition "MATTER OF COLOUR" again takes place in Hangar #2 in the Jaffa Port. Each member of the workshop presents one work from his own collection painted during the current year. The curator of the exhibition is Bruria Hassner.
Opening event: 31.5.2012 at 8:00 pm, in the presence of the curator, the creators and more.
